Reading- compare and contrast

Today's reading was about comparing and contrasting the different countries around the world.

We made groups of 3 and was given a country.  The countries we were allowed to pick were:

  1. Brazil
  2. India
  3. Russia
  4. Samoa
  5. Tonga
  6. Cook Island
  7. New Zealand
  8. Hawaii

My groups choice was Brazil.  Some interesting facts about Brazil is they eat a lot of rice.  The population is 207million and like to wear causal foot wear that is comfortable for them. (Navaeh)

My groups choice was New Zealand.  We have a lot of people that are that not from New Zealand.  We have different cultures, that is so cool.  New Zealand has 4.3 million people. Auckland has 1.3 million wow thats heaps. (Vanshika)

My groups choice was Samoa. It is hot in Samoa.  The food we eat is Panipopo and Panikeke.  It is yum.  They speak Samoan and little english. (Alfred)

My Groups choice was Fiji. They have just over 902 thousand people. they love their fish, prawn and lobster.  This is good considering Fiji is an island surround by water.

My groups choice was Tongan.  They make their clothes out of trees.  It was strange to hear this because I am unsure how they make it.  The population of Tongan was 106 thousand (Stephene)

My groups choice was India.  They speak Indian with one being Hindu.  They wear traditional Indian clothing called Sari. (Jaydon)

My groups choice was Hawaii.  The population is 1.3million people.  This was taken from the 2010 and could be more.  This is less than New Zealand.  The clothes the girls wear in Hawaii Mu'u Mu'u.  (Jessie)

Then the children shared their ideas about the what is the same and what is different.

Things that were the same.  Countries did speak english. Though, didn't have to be the first language.  Some of the countries is covered by water.  They loved food especially seafood and they all have traditional clothing.

What is different?  the language was different.  The way they cook food.  The population of the countries was different and we found the land mass was different too.

Next week room 19 will be sharing their learning through presentation.
